Worker Fatigue
Presented by Dr. Daniel Mollicone
June 4th, 2019 at 3:15 PM

It is well known that fatigue impacts a driver’s ability to safely operated the vehicle. NTSB estimates that fatigue is a causal or contributing factor in at least 1 in 5 accidents. Other studies show that fatigue is involved in half of all series heavy truck accidents that require either a tow truck or ambulance. Given that trucking operations involve early starts, long days, and night work, some amount of fatigue is inevitable. But how much fatigue is too much? This presentation will demonstrate tools and approaches to assess fatigue risk and driver fitness for duty. Industry benchmarks will be provided to assist trucking operations with setting up an objective quantitative framework to manage fatigue risk with clear thresholds to trigger fatigue mitigation workflows. Lessons-learned will be presented from a fatigue risk management implementation in a trucking operation.
